Donor Charter
The University of West London relies on philanthropic support to advance its mission. The University is deeply grateful to all its donors for their generous support and is dedicated to treating donors with the highest level of care and respect.
The Donor Charter assures donors and prospective donors of the integrity and accountability of the University’s development activities.
We will:
- Treat donors in a fair, transparent, accurate and honest manner in accordance with all applicable laws and the professional code of fundraising ethics and good practice.
- Inform donors of the way we intend to use donated resources and of our commitment to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
- Appropriately acknowledge in a timely manner, recognise and publicise donations in consultation with donors and respect anonymity where required.
- Provide progress reports and updates to donors on supported activity.
- Consult donors if their donation cannot be used for its intended purpose and have it repaid if agreement cannot be reached within a short period of time for an alternative use.
- Keep donors updated about the impact of their philanthropy and the University’s evolving needs and priorities.
- Inform donors of the impact of their donation, eg. recruitment for a post they have funded, outputs of research they have supported, the award of a scholarship or bursaries they have funded.
- Inform donors if there is a change in the priorities or needs of the University, or in the case of funding an academic position, a change of personnel. The use of donations will be discussed with the donor.
- Respect donors’ rights to privacy and fully comply with the General Data Protection Regulations and the Data Protection Act of 2018. Donors will have the right to see their own donor record and to challenge its accuracy.
- Give donors access to the University’s published accounts.
- Never sell the University’s donor list.
- Respond within 30 days to a complaint by a donor or prospective donor about any matter relating to the University’s fundraising or alumni activities. A member of the Development Office will attempt to satisfy the complainant’s concerns in the first instance. A complainant who remains dissatisfied will be informed that she/he may appeal in writing to the Vice Chancellor/University Governing Board who will respond to this appeal within a further 30 days.
Freedom of Information
The University is subject to the requirements of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In exceptional circumstances further information regarding donors and donations may be subject to disclosure under the Act. Data Protection
The University will manage your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulations and the Data Protection Act 2018. The University will not process your personal data for any other purpose that the administration of your donation, unless we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it.
