Dear Alumni, honorary members, friends and supporters of UWL,
It is certainly difficult to comprehend just how much and how quickly our lives have changed, in just a few short weeks. But it is so encouraging to see how quickly we have begun to adapt to a completely new way of working together, across our University community, in the best interests of our students, staff, and all of our alumni and friends.
We are proud to see how our University community has come together, in unprecedented action, so we can continue to offer teaching, support and a network of peers that are in keeping with our always high standards. Since we closed our campus, we have seen students and teaching staff embrace remote working and online teaching with admiration, enthusiasm and imagination. Along with teaching, all of our vital support services have now moved online until further notice. You can follow the latest changes, as they happen, on our website.
I want to express my admiration and gratitude to all of the members of our alumni and supporter community who are working in front-line healthcare and other essential services at this extraordinary time. I know that many of you will be facing the greatest challenges of your career and making significant sacrifices to ensure we can weather these times, and we are proud of each one of you for all you are doing.
Our students are embracing new ways of working and interacting online, as their Course Leaders go the extra mile in ensuring they have resources they need and face as minimal disruption as possible. Remaining part of a strong community – at a time when we are all facing so many challenges in terms of travel, and separation from family and friends – is incredibly important, and we will continue to offer our support in every way we can at this time.
The University buildings may be quiet, but the University is working tirelessly to help look after students facing financial hardship, those not able to get home and anyone experiencing anxiety, stress or any other issues.
Finally, I wanted to let you know that our Office of Development and Alumni Relations is working remotely to continue to inform and support you in more creative ways, while many of you are at home. Please keep in touch with the team at: alumni@uwl.ac.uk
Wherever you are in the world, stay safe, stay connected, and we will come through these difficult times together.
Best regards,
