During the evening, an animated discussion will be held on the topic of ‘Women in Engineering and Technology’.
Professor Amir Alani, Executive Dean of the School of Computing and Engineering and Dr Elahe Kani-Zabihi, Course Leader for BSc Creative Computing, will lead the discussion and present findings from their research.

Speakers
Professor Amir Alani, Executive Dean of the School of Computing and Engineering
Professor Alani joined UWL in 2014. He is a chartered engineer with nearly 25 years’ experience working in the higher education sector and with different professional bodies in the UK.
Professor Alani is an expert in the assessment, repair and maintenance of civil engineering infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels and buildings and has an established track record of research and development work in other branches of civil engineering.
Dr Elahe Kani-Zabihi, Course leader for BSc Creative Computing
Dr Kani-Zabihi completed her BEng Hon. Degree in Computing from City University of London in 2003 in a male populated environment with less than 10 women studying on the course.
After completing her MSc Distributed Systems, she studied a PhD at Brunel University and successfully defended her thesis in 2008. Dr Kani-Zabihi worked as a Researcher and Lecturer at Royal Holloway University of London, Coventry University and Nottingham Trent University before joining University of West London in 2015 as a Lecturer and Course Leader for Creative Computing.
